Question:

Does anyone wnt to become a glassblower and why is it not so popular in britain?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I don't think its not popular, its just not part of history as in say, Scandinavia. Consequently there are only a few art colleges where it can be studied and therefore not many blowers many glass blowers make paraphenelia in britian the probably just brew their pot in with some tea.. lol I would love to. However, it's yet another art form being killed off by mass production and large corporations.

Go to Cockington in Torquay and they have a great little glassblowing studio there... I want to be.
I saw a person at Bondi beach (not on the beach, but near, across the road from the pavilion) making art objects there and then and selling some of them.
Guess it takes great skill. Maybe you could talk to a glass blower. I know of one in Niagara Falls Canada I believe his name is Angelo Rossi.
here is the web site there is even a web cam so you can watch him blow glass all though I can't get it to open for me right now.

I hope this helps you in your quest. I used to like the idea of it about fiteen years ago, before the renaisance of studio glass. My dad was a glass engraver and I gained a love of fine glass. I did not know it was popular, It may be because glass is beautiful. I believe an awful lot of craftsmanship has been lost. A well blown uncoloured goblet is in a different league to studio glass. Perhaps with studio glass it is easier to be creative.

It is probably popular due to some sort of romantic image which normaly goes with the artisan territory, reality though, no thanks.
