The realistic and natural representation of people, places, or things in a work of art is realism. A still life, a scenic painting of the spring time, paintings of flowers are all examples of realism. Its like a photograph on canvas. The painting will be exactly what you are looking at. Realism tries to portray life as objectively as possible. The realistic artist tries to keep his own preconceived notions out of his art but rather to just report what he sees as accurately as possible, ??warts and all.??

Impressionsim is your idea of what you are looking at. Impressionism includes visible brushstrokes, open composition, emphasis on light in its changing qualities ordinary subject matter, and unusual visual angles.
