Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Deep Purple - do these guys seriously understand the music well?

I just heard that they have passed a classical music examination & have a cleverness in the subject of classical music background. Moreover they can read all scores and analyze the compositions.

is this true ? if yes one shoul be very proud to be a fan of them

I just checked the backgrounds of these gentlemen from "NME Book of Rock 2", published in 1973. This handbook mentioned only Jon Lord as a musician with classical background.

It may be, however, that every fact about the education of these gentlemen has not been mentioned in this excellent book. Another question is if they have performed some more studies after 1973 (which I do not believe because they have been very busy..).

There are specified books written about these bands - at least about Pink Floyd. They may help you furher on.
