Is Fashion a Form of Art?

is fashion a form of art? what are the similarites and differences between fashion design elements and art elements? How do you link fashion with art and ultimately conclude that fashion is derived from art? Lol im working on a long essay any help will be very much appreciated =)

Fashion is a form of art, if only for the effect it has on the world. Fashion, like art, is inspired. Fashion, like art, is created. Fashion like art, is about vision. Fashion and art are both trends. The designer and the artist both have visions...the artist in how to express his world through art, and the designer in how to affect his world through clothing.

Fashion takes color, form and line into account when being created...but is more limited to the capabilities of the medium. Art takes none of these into consideration...an artists makes his medium comply to his vision.
It could also be argued that fashion is about beauty. Art, certainly, is not. While fashion is meant by the designer to be looked at and reproduced, art is meant to provoke thought, to be uniquely the vision of the one who created it.
