If your interests are in art, but you must open a business to support your self ...?

to support your self, what kind of business would you open and why?

you can make money being an artist, it just takes a lot of strategical planning. First think about the kind of people who might like your art. Then hit every gallery around your area, if you find one that has art sympathetic to yours, apply. I would stick to Coops and Non profits as they are your most likely chance. Commercial galleries only accept relatively successful artists. IN the meantime hit art fairs, or set up a booth next to a museum. Also a website(s) with your art on it and a price list is an immensely valuable resource.
There are other options though, Have you considered teaching- if you have an MFA you can apply for a college level position, otherwise think grades K-12 or about giving private tutorials. A good way to start this is to volunteer at a local camp or community center, if you pitch it right, and they like you they may offer you a paid position after a while. Good luck in art and in life
