Question:

Where does the RYB color wheel come from if red, yellow and blue are not the true primaries of light?

I had just learned that cyan, magenta, and yellow are the subtractive primaries. Why are red and blue called primaries?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:

red yellow and blue are root colors from which all colors derive, cyan is an ink color and magenta is a combination of blue and red. Understand that red , blue and yellow in their pure forms don't exist in nature so to get a full range of colors you are stuck with pigments which are available hence cyan (blue) magenta (purple) and yellow.
