Question:

Can i noe about a poem which is written by a Singaporean?

I need it for research.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:

It reveals a shift in the poet's response to his situation, one reflected over generations, which alters the perspective from that of exile to native. The Chineseness remains but emerges transmuted, reset in a Singapore environment.

HERE IS THE POEM:

Two children are enough, but their toys are never enough
after each holiday they leave pools of toys
abandoned and out of favour.

They might try the Hainanese Chicken Rice at Swee Kee's
but it doesn't compare with Kentucky Fried Chicken
where they can enjoy the in thing of finger-lickin'.

Afterwards they will switch on Xiao Li to watch him play with the
Flying Daggers,
and also look for Brother Wu Ji who practises
the art of the Dragon Sword.
from nine at night in every housing board flat
forest outlaws and swordsmen of the Chivalrous World
appear on TV screens.

Three years of primary education
and their futures must he decided.
They must be good in English
and also speak a little Mandarin.
Tests and exams are cold-blooded slaughters.
They're not anxious - but their parents are.

ANOTHER POEM:

The temperature is charged; the evening sky
Has more colours, but no crags to help it glow.
Moods re-arrange. Ink flows with a second spirit.
Stars have new names; winds rise into a rolling,
Plaintive call; strange incense fills the air.

Twilight creeps across blue- burnish waters
As the riding monsoon brings out kindred
Memories. No lark but a final seagull cries
To baleful dog-star high above the curving
Slide of dolphins hunting the turning tide.
You hear water swish when caged carps breathe;
Ripples where crabs slip tactfully into pure stillness.
No crocuses in spring; no spring; no plum blossoms
Waiting for a poet. Only spider orchids for company
In a land where man and nature is a different history.

ANOTHER POEM:

Singapore Blog Conspiracy

In the deep dark shadows of area blog,
Lies the conspiracy of the blog
Struck in the world of Tomorrow(singapore)
Joinly headed by agent B,
Head blogging agent in brown
Smack you with his lightsaber you may
Till his minions bow before him they may
Readers alike, feeders or nay
Till the rise of Bloggers.Singapore you say.

Outgrown it??s luncheon is spam
Drenched in it??s seeping oil
Assaulted comments it may be
Till no end the robots strike
May it be bayesian, the distant light,
Stop the flight, this endless plight

Free speech you say, then what??s moderation?
Tied is the unspoken voice of Hong Lim
Limited vocalisation
Daily right on chest
Recited, the democratic place we build
Speech blown in the distant wind,
Never spoken but keyed
The power of connectivity
Till this life, millions will read

The winds of change it shall be
The singapore blog conspiracy.
