Question:

I'm selling a viola which has a chip on the paint on the front side. How much should I sell it for?

The viola still produces a good sound, and also the C string needs to be replaced. Personally I don't really need too much for anything.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:

Replace the string(s) and tune it, If possible touch up the paint chip. (it should be simple varnish). Ask at a music store what one is worth, they might even have the touch up materials for the finish.
You might want to call up local music schools to ask if you can post a notice there.
You could also look around a pawn shop to see what they are asking for used violas/violins. Price yourself accordingly. If you underprice you might not get much interest and are cheating yourself, if you price to high you reject sales, but you only need one real sale, right.
Good luck. It is difficult to give you an Idea of value not knowing where you are.
Ebay auctions are another price guide.
