The term fauvism comes from an art critic, who described an exhibition which included the work of Andre Derain, Henri Matisse and Maurice de Vlaminck as 'Cage aux Fauves', which means 'cage of wild beasts'. This was meant as a facetious comment, but the term became widely used. |
