Great question. It always upsets me to see a great work of art leave its "home".........I have often wondered if other people feel the same. I always cheer when I hear on the radio that a home nation gallery raised the cash to prevent a foreign collector getting their hands on it.
Its nice to see temporary foreign exhibitions travel round the world to give others a chance they wouldn't get (especially poor people) to see master pieces but strictly on a temporary basis.
Obviously with some delicate works and sculpture this is impossible.
Art helps define a regions culture. If you take away significant works from say Rome, Amsterdam, Paris etc YOU are taking away the SOUL of the country.
