If you are creating a tile for an art class, it would be a good idea to use local materials to incorporate into your work either in the form of symbolic images or characters. For instance, if you were in a place with a lot of French heritage, you would want to incorporate fleur de lis patterns in the work. If you were from Boston, you would want to incorporate something relevant to the Mayflower. The same idea could be said of Hawaii, Ireland, or anywhere else in the world. Local materials and local symbolism are always appreciated by teachers.
