I live in queens, NY. To be honest with you it's really what you make of it. It's as face paced as it can get. Public transportation sucks sometimes but never stops. Traffic can be bad sometimes but tolerable. Very ethnically diverse. Sometimes theyre grouped by neighborhoods. For instance- Flushing and Chinatown- asians, Astoria- italians and spanish people, corona- spanish people, jamaica harlem- black people, bayside forest hills and where i live, kew gardens- white people. Doesnt mean its exclusive though. You dont really need a car because you can take transportation anywhere although it might be difficult to some places. Manhattan is a wonderful place to be and hang out. Countless number of restaurants, nightclubs, bars, awesome nightlife, tons of places to shop. Ive lived in the city all my life never got tired of it. NYC is close to long island so if you want to escape and hit the beaches or nicer rural areas you can head out there. It's also only hours away from boston, philadelphia, new jersey, pennsylvania, kind of the middle launching point to all those places. Crime went down a lot to a minimum over the years so all the stereotypes of getting shot and triads and mafias dont exist anymore. you still get crime but not as much the police here are really tight. Honestly I wouldnt want to live anywhere but NYC and I thank god for being born into this city. Its the largest city in the world and it feels like its own state with all the places you can go. From 34 street to soho to chinatown to time square you can never get bored. You get all tastes and aspects of life. Very festive and lively. If you like sports thats good too because you can watch the knicks, the rangers, us open, and we have the kickass new yrs eve celebration too. We have good colleges upstate but the city is starting to accumulate overcrowded public schools. Entering Queens is one world, and brooklyn is another. But like I said downside is traffic and sometimes the people can be jerks but not all. don't expect california where everyone is smiling and happy. Weather here has also gotten stranger over the years. It gets really cold in the winter and really hot in the summer and one day in can be 75 and the next its 55. If you're considering living here I highly recommend it but do some research on where you want to live. If you want space I recommend Queens like Bayside or Forest Hills, its nice and quiet there. Brooklyn the houses are packed together and very crammed. Bronx isnt very different. Dont even think about owning a house in the city unless ur living in harlem. Studios and apartments are common in manhattan. Whatever it is you do, I bid you good luck
