Question:

Looking for derivitiave works of William Shakespeare?

I'm looking for contemporary creative works that are either wholly or loosely based on work by Shakespeare. Examples such as the film "Shakespeare in Love", or others loosely or wholly based on his characters, plots, work, etc., either in film, writing, music, art.

Great examples so far! Keep them coming! This is for an art project that deals with issues of prior art, copyright, and intellectual property. The more examples the better!

One play that springs to mind is "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead" by Tom Stoppard. See the link below for more information.

Also, in 2001, Tim Blake Nelson directed a movie called "O", which was an updating of Shakespeare's "Othello". See the first IMDB link below.

Speaking of IMDB, if you check out the second IMDB link, it will give you all sorts of instances where William Shakespeare has writing credits in movies. Some of them will be standard Shakespearean fare, but others will be re-interpretations or new ideas based on his works.

Hope this helps.
