Reality shows for a 1950's audience?

Do you think Reality Shows would have appealed to a 1950's audience? Why or why not? What types of shows were popular then, and what does that tell us about people of that time?

What does reality television's current popularity reveal about today's society?

I don't think 1950'S audience would have given a reality show the time of day.. And frankly, I can't imagine why a 2007 audience does either. I believe the 50's people were far to busy spending time with their own families and friends to care about a reality show. I think when they did turn on the tv, they wanted to be entertained. You have to remember people in the 50's didn't spend hours in front of a tv. They had a life.
