Question:

Piano recital is today!?

My piano recital is today, and I am really nervous! I already hate piano, but my parents are making me do it until I graduate which is 2 more years. I am not very good at my song. I cried yesterday when I went to practice. I just don't want all those people watching me. I can play it ok if people aren't watching. Any advice on how to not be so nervous? Any words of encouragement will help! Thank you so much. And also, do you think it is right for my parents to make me do piano? I've been doing it for 10 years already, and I know how to play. I don't know why I have to keep doing it. Thank you.

DON'T PANIC.
Relax. Breathe. I know you're all keyed up, but you care more than anyone else. Most people are going out of a sense of obligation or to support someone's efforts. They may look like they are watching you, but they're really thinking about the game this weekend, what that funk is between their toes, how to high gas prices are, etc...
I know it's hard to do, but if you can get through this, you'll be a stronger person. Once you're out of school you may have to give a speech, lead a meeting, demonstrate a product or idea, etc... Think of this as practice for life.
No one really cares if you make a mistake. You'll be your harshest critic, I guarantee. And so what if you do? Your life is not depending on it, no one is going to lose a limb or burst into flame if you're not perfect.
If you make a mistake, don't panic! Take a deep breath and pick up where you left off. Life seems to be about succeeding, but success is irrelevant. Getting out there and doing stuff is what Life is about.
Find some kind eyes to look at once you are at the piano. Smile, this relaxes your face. Take a deep breath and center yourself.
Think of the cookies after. See yourself being relaxed and playing your piece.
You'll be fine! Just breathe.
Good luck!
