Question:

Is there anyone know major theory on anthropology of disaster?

I am doing my research proposal on anthropology of disaster, and I do need guidance on the theory, as well methode. FYI, I work on disaster area.

Katrina started a resurgence of interest in the anthropology of disaster. The main question centers on how societies organize and behave when all known structures of support are suddenly removed? Some will argue that smaller pockets of organization and structure occur as in the interaction of people at the Superdome in New Orleans and the Dec 26 Tsunami in Thailand. Other anthropologists argue that modern societies strip away traditional ways of predicting and managing disaster. For example nomadic people dealt with drought by establishing cooperative links with sedentary people. Modern society however has disrupted these links by creating political boundaries, preventing the nomads return to their previous relief plan. Not wanting to write your paper for you... here are some great links to books and major theories. Good luck and am glad anthropology is allowing us to rethink the way we do things!
