Question:

Does anyone know where i can buy straight jackets or arm and leg retraints for less than $125?

Here is the deal... I'm trying to shoot a movie and the scenes are meant to look like they are in a mental institution. I definitely need straight jackets and arm restraints, but i really do not feel like paying a huge amount of money for them. I need about 4 or 5 of them, so does anyone know where i can get some for less than $125?

It will depend on what you want in the movie and how authentic you need them to look for a close-up. For a close-up you will want a real straitjacket. The two companies that make medical straitjackets are Humane and Posey. The Humane straitjacket uses leather straps in the back and for the arms. It looks ominous but is not as secure, it does not usually have the front or side loops to secure the arms and the crotch strap is optional. This may help with your costume design because you can have your actor wear a skirt. The Posy straitjacket is much more secure (it's the one I am wearingin the photo) and once you??ve tied up your actors they will not be able to escape. It does have both the front and side loops and the crotch strap, if you don??t want them you??ll have to cut them off. Both of these jackets sell for $150-$200 each. A suggestion. If you buy one Humane straitjacket for any close-ups that you will need, you can inexpensively make 4 other straitjackets using canvas that will look authentic at a distance and only cost around $20 and an hour of sewing each or try the $50 jackets you can get on Ebay or a costume shop (they will look like a holloween costume). If you are near any movie studios you can try to rent them but it will probably cost at least $100 each.
For the arm restraints if you??re actually looking for the hospital cuffs/restraints, the same two companies make them, they cost about $80 per pair for the leather ones. The come in two sizes, wrist and ankel.
You can buy these from some medical supply stores on the Internet and some BDSM sites. Humane may sell to you directly, but Posey will not (both have websites). I am an escape artist and have used all of these in my act at one time or another.
