Question:

Is it correct to say "it gave him an idea of what they had to offer?" Should I say "an idea about what..."?

I'm writing an essay for Classics in English, which is my second language. From time to time I really struggle to express my thoughts properly. Sometimes dictionary doesn't help a lot. I hope you'll help me out on this one :)

You can have an idea of something, just as you can have a picture of something.
You can also have an idea about something, just as you can have a conversation about something.
Hope that helps.
