which era chuck close? his photo-realism paintings, or his more recient digital inspired portraits?
the only olderburg i am familiar with atre his giant sculptures of mundane day to day things, and his wonderful sketches.
they both represented the 'stuff' that made life what it was in their era.
close's photo-realistic painting often exagerated the flaws of photography. the limited depth of feild was exaggerated, the tip of the nose and the back of the ears were blurred. the colours and lighting look like a flash, rather than a traditional studio lighting setup. now that digital photography is big, he's focusing on the pixelation and colour seperation of an image.
oldenbers sculptures are of everyday things, typewriters, giant hamburgers, pencil eraser wheel things. his sculptures have become like a (gian) snapshot of life in his era.
