When I encountered my life partner, he knew who I was right away. I was flattered. He used to call the "me" I knew "The Imposter" and "The Gift Untaken". He died last year, unexpectedly. In the aftermath I realize I KNOW WHO I AM. I know who I am because once upon a time I encountered another who knew who and what I am.

There's a Jackson Browne song and I always loved these lyrics: "You never knew what I loved in you. I don't know what you loved in me - maybe the vision of somebody you were hoping I might be."
