Question:

Writers using "research guys"?

I have a condition called Aspergers Syndrome which allows me to have narrow yet intense interests, and when I put my mind to something I can have an extreme knowledge on a subject. A family friend told me that a career I may be good at is doing research for writers. He said most writers have "go-to" guys for research. For instance if a writer has something in their book about the pyramids, they may talk to their go-to guy and tell them they want a lot of information on the pyramids, etc. Has anyone heard of this? It sounds very interesting.

I have heard of this go-to-guy, A research group was set up using the principal a number of years ago. Saw an article on it in a Sunday paper a few years ago. Seems that the group saw it as a way of employing people and storing data to sell to others on the Internet for example.
