Can someone remind me the name of a very forward looking and modernistic British

Question:

Can someone remind me the name of a very forward looking and modernistic British architect?

I've recently seen a TV programme about this British architect, who has got his studio in London and has designed some really unique projects around the world. What I can remember:
- I think he had "th" in his surname
- he made a really amazing project for a buddhist temple in Japan (one that waits for money to be raised for its completion)
- a very bizarre staircase for a New York outlet of one of the major handbag manufacturers
- I think that there was also this church/temple made in US almost exclusively using glass.

Thanks for the help so far, but he actually had "th" in the middle of his name. Something like ???leather???, ???heather???.

I think I know . is it Thomas Heatherwick? They had a piece about him on the culture show a while back
