I'm not sure of a way to permanently put them on the outside, but if you're looking for a new project, you can learn to embed them. This would be a permanent way to preserve and display them. You can even get creative and embed poems, birth dates, or a lock of hair. The finished product looks really neat. Here is the website where you can learn how:
