Question:

Has anyone been to Arisia, and how was it?

I'm trying to choose between going to this scifi con (which I might not have a chance to go to after this year b/c I graduate), and just staying home and saving money, time, and effort. I'm tight on money and time, but do you think it's worth it to go?

(4 hour drive)

I've been to Arisia many times and enjoyed it. I am not going this year because it is a 10 hour drive for me now (used to live in Mass). Have you ever been to a sci/fi con before? If you have I would say Arisia is better than average.

On the other hand if you've never been to a sci/fi convention you are in for a real treat. Finding a large welcoming community that has the same interests you do is awesome. You'll find that it isn't just books - sci/fi fans (called fen) tend to listen to the same music, pursue the same hobbies, hold the same philosophies etc. The sci/fi community meets regularly all over the country. If you enjoy Arisia then you'll see the same great people at Boskone in February (Boston), Lunacon in March (New York), Balticon in May (Maryland), etc.

So, if you've never been - I suggest you go.
