Question:

How is the Florence Cathedral dome precisely build?

I know that Brunelleschi invented new hoists and that the dome consists of an inner and outer dome. Also that he used a chaine to suport the weight. We also learned that both shells of the dome were build simultaneously--> But I dont't get it why this is so special?
I'm also confused about how they dealt with the stress of the weight. (herringbone pattern??)
Last Q, Normally when they build a dome they use a wooden centering. How does this work?

thank you very very much!!

What was so 'special' was that many builders had their efforts cave in on them because a dome needs to have support during fabrication, which is gained with scaffolding, braces, and other temporary supports.
Once a dome-arch is completed, it is supported by the stresses that each brick applies against its neighboring bricks.
Regardless of what pattern is used, once a soundly laid-up dome is complete, it supports itself.
