Question:

What are the arguments against lingustic relativity?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:

Linguistics is of itself a relative science. The reasons why any society deem certain words, word groups and word memes to be of consequence depend entirely on the the minutia of that society. Now if the relativity of a relative matter is given consequence, then everything is up for grabs.

The only place we can allow relative association to be considered is when it is against a background of certainty.
Relativity as it is primarily defined concerns the mathematical model of the universe against the determined absolutes of accepted measurement. To allow relativistic linguistics would be like accepting the positional data of an oceangoing vessel without the rather more absolute coordinates of the stars.

Sorry if this seems deep.

It's a deep subject.
