Question:

What is the last day of the week?

It depends on the culture. For example, in Intro to Linguistics, we did a translation exercise that involved the days of the week. The trick to it was that "Saturday" was the FIRST day of the week. This was an exercise from a real language: Swahili. There ARE cultures out there (or there's at least one culture out there) that use the seven-day week/ 12-month model from Western culture, but do not treat Sunday or Monday as the beginning of the week.

Modern American calendars place Sunday as the first day of the week, and Saturday as the last day. However, when you think about biblical tradition, Sunday should be the day of rest-- it is the last day. I don't have any official sources on this one, however-- just an educated guess. When you get down to it, I bet you that three different Americans can make three different cases for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday each being the last day of the week-- and the only difference between them will be which traditions and standards they point at.
