Without knowing where "your area" is, I would be guessing about that the political factors are. But the economic factors will clearly weigh heavily with the politicians, and a world cup is bound to be a huge bonus economically for the hosting country. They will need to hire a lot of workers, buy a lot of materials and supplies, and generally bring in a lot of people who will spend a lot of money.

The main element directly involving the politicians is the decision to hold the series in your area. That involves them being able to discuss where it would be (what stadium), what hotels and motels will be available in the area, what additional security will be needed, that sort of thing. There will be licensing fees from television and advertising revenues, and many of the advance publicity films will need to be shot in the location, to lure people to the "beautiful city" of Whatsit, where the matches are being held. There are any number of permits and licenses and fees and money for the political entities themselves, but also the taxes on all that additional money flowing into the hands of merchants and hotels and restaurants.
