I've seen authors who cycle through all three in a single novel (Pynchon comes to mind)!. That works because all three have their purposes!. 3rd is far more immediate and involves the reader more in the story, but it's incredibly limiting to the writer - no omniscience, no cutaways, and usually a single character's perspective (unless you jump)!.

3rd person can be more detached (though a skillful writer can avoid this), but it's so much more flexible!. It's also what most readers expect, so it's less challenging to them!.

Your call, though!. It depends on your style and the material!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Each method has its pros and cons!. If you write in the first person, you can explain what your main character is thinking, but you can't fully grasp other events that the main character doesn't see!. Writing in the third person allows you to show events that happen simultaneously, or to different characters, but you have to use dialogue to draw out characters' feelings!.

Personally, I've used both at times, and I find third person easier to deal with!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

3rd - it gives you more possibilities if you find there's really no way around needing a scene for which your protagonist isn't present and knows nothing about!.

It's simple nonsense to say that third person prevents you from getting inside the head of the POV character!. Look up "third person limited" - that's exactly what it's for!. The only difference between 3rd person limited and 1st person is that you write "he/she" + verb instead of "I" + verb!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

okay!. this varies for me because I'm fickle and annoying :)
harry potter was written in 3rd person and that in my opinion is the best book ever written!. i do prefer first person however
except twilight was written in first person and that's the worst book I've ever read
see it varies for me
I'm just difficultWww@QuestionHome@Com

1st because it's easier to tell what the main character is feeling and thinking, and also because it's easier to get into the mind of the character and make them seem more real!.
i prefer writing in 1st person for the same reasons!.
write your book in whatever person you feel comfortable with, and what you think would create the best effect!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First person!. It gives such a more intimate and personal view of the story and the events and emotions!. I think it is much easier, or at least more effective, to write from because when you are writing you sort of become the person therefore your writing will feel more real and organic!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

1st is probably easier, but you MUST make an engaging voice!.!.!.a voice that is going to hold reader's attention!.!.!.something to keep in mind!.!.!.yes, Twilight was 1st and the voice was trite, shallow and extremely unlikeable!.!.!.good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I prefer third, but I've read some good first-person stories, as long as they reach out beyond the character!.

Try writing a chapter in both first and third and see which you prefer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
