Young adult book--can't think of the title?

Question:

I read a book when I was younger, and I can't for the life of me remember what it is!.

The main character was a teenager!. Her father and brother had died in a car accident, and she kept some of their things in a falling apart box in her closet!. Her mother was an alcoholic, and there's mention of her buying smaller booze bottles to try and fool the daughter into thinking she doesn't drink as much as she does, but the daughter knows better!.

I want to say that she makes an unusual friend towards the end of the book, but I am not totally sure about that!. I also think the girl's name is Claudia, but again, not totally sure!.
