Question: Phrase help!?!!?! 10pts best answer!!!!?
"She spared him no surprise"

Im not sure if I am using the above phrase correctly for what Im trying to depict!.

Does the the phrase "she spared him no surprise"
convey an ambush of some sort!? My female character is waiting on her husband, but he doesnt know she is standing in the door way of thier room!. How do I relay that in a short sentence, if the phrase Iam using is not correct!?

She spared him no surprise actually implies that she surprised him every chance she got, and in every possible way!. I don't think it works where you're using it!. Just the fact that it's being read in a few different ways here lets you know that it's unclear!. In your place I would use a more direct phrase!. The word surprise is fine as would both startle or ambush be!.

!.!.!. she ambushed him promptly !.!.!.

!.!.!. she took the opportunity to startle him there !.!.!.

!.!.!. the element of surprise was in her favor !.!.!.

"She spared him no surprise" implies that she didn't surprise him!. She didn't let him get surprised!.

I would suggest: "He was in the hall before she could count to twenty!. She surprised him when!.!.!." and then say what she did!.

"She spared him no surprise" would mean that she surprised him!.
"She spared him surprise" would mean that she didn't surprise him!.

I would actually use the word ambush!.

"As she heard him in the hallway, she prepared herself to ambush him as he walked through the door!."Www@QuestionHome@Com
