also, in the first book, she asks Dumbledore 'How did you know it was me'!.!.!. McGonagal was a registered animagi - surely he would have known she was able to turn into a cat!? It feels like JK Rowling forgot McGonagal was an animagi after the first book!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I agree!. I can think of many times when turning into a cat would have been useful to her!. Then again, I remember that she transformed in front of the students at least one time that is mentioned!. Perhaps it wasn't useful to her because too many people would recognize her animagi form!? I do agree that it sems as though Joe for got that McGonagol ha tis ability, itseems that it would have at least been used again somewhere, espeacially in the last couple of books!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I'm sure that McGonagall used her ability more often than we see in the books!. After all, the books follow just Harry, so we don't see what she does all of the time!. Harry mainly sees her at Hogwarts, where she rarely needs to turn into a cat (and even if she did, the students and teachers would know it was her by her markings)!. I imagine that she becomes a cat for Order-related business, such as if she had to follow a person or travel relatively unnoticed!. But becoming smaller and more vunerable wouldn't really help her in a battle or anything!. It's not like she could turn into a horse or large dog, like James and Sirius could, and charge down people!. Though she could probably use it to sneak around during the battle if she needed to!. I agree it was silly for McGonagall to ask Dumbledore that!. Obviously, if they were in the Order together, he would know all about her ability and what she looked like as a cat!. This is probably just something that JKR overlooked!. I don't see it as JKR forgetting about McGonagall's talent, just that she was generally more powerful as a human, and would be more efficient in work and in battles this way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I think she turns into her cat form more often then you think, at least in the movies she does!. But as you said, everyone knows she is a a cat and what she looks like, so its not as if she could use this as a huge advantage in the wizard realm!. I have read all the books, and it has been awhile, but I do recall her using her ability for various reason!.
