Question: I'm a writer- advice on coming up with names!?
I really love books like The Goose Girl (by Shannon Hale) and Eragon (by Christopher Paolini) and would like to write my own fiction story!. My problem is that I can never think of good, original names for characters or places!. Any advice on coming up with such names!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Baby name books!. Just pick out odd ones that jump out at you, like "Eilish" "Monoke" and other weird ones!.!.!.

Or you could just put random letters together, like "Schyler" (pronounced Skyler) Having weird spellings for normal names (well, uncommon names) really make the names seem original and creative!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

write the stories first and add the names later!. it doesnt matter too much what the names are just leave a blank wherever you need a name!. just think in your head and the first name that pops in your mind use!. it doesnt matter if it is weird, it is your book!. the name will grow on you as you write the story or will just sound wrong and if that is the case then you can always change it later!. you could also consider using names of you favorite authors like shannon or christopher! another suggestion, go on baby name sites and they have millions of names half of them you have probably never heard but you might like a lot! hope this helps good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

My advice is to pull out a phone book and have fun with it!. You will find unique last names or sounds which you can combine to come up with your own last names!.

also, you can use a baby name book for the first names and find unique names that you like and combine them with sounds or pieces of other names you like to make them unique!Www@QuestionHome@Com

When ever I need to have a name for my characters I use Behind the Name!. It shows the origins and meanings of the names listed!. It may also help with the name for places!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I usually just search baby names, until I find the name that just connects with the fictional character's personality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ah, the writer's secret weapon!.!.!.the baby name book!. it really helps quite a bit when trying to think of appropriate names for characters!. I have one that I use quite a bit called A World of Baby Names by Teresa Norman which never fails me, it has a lot of unusual names!.

http://www!.amazon!.com/World-Names-Revise!.!.!.

I'm sure there are plenty of others that would work just as well, try looking in your local used book store or thrift shop, they usually have several of them!.

Hope that helps!. Cheers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
