Question: Did anyone else think the Twilight books were poor writing!?
I love the general ideal behind them, but it was not carried out very well!. Most every book critic can agree Bella was poorly developed and Edward was frighteningly over-protective!.
I hear all of these fellow teenagers drooling over Edward and I ask them why, to which they have only a giggle for a response!. Yes, I've read the books, but Edward did not enamor me!. I found him suffocating and aggravating!.
However, I enjoyed Jacob, up until he went all pedo!.
But the writing! It was decent at first, but as time wore on, it got worse until she just didn't seem to care anymore in Breaking Dawn!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
the books are disgusting!. She attempted a romance novel and realized it sucked so she pulled in supernatural creatures, and is sucked MORE!!!! SPOILER**** she even stole the concept of a rapidly growing vampire child right out of the pages of Christopher Pikes' The Last Vampire!.!.!.and she did it badly!.
Edward and Bella have no personalities!. The writing is atrocious!.!.!.Edward bored me so much I actually skipped entire chapters!. I advise reading maybe Vampire Academy by Richelle Meade, The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory(the books are not related, but very interesting)!. Or even Obsidian Butterfly by Laurell K!. Hamilton!.

The Twilight series is for drones who don't know good literature(obviously)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah, I agree, the main idea seems pretty interesting, but it lacks a strong foundation!. The author seemed unsure how to write out her idea, and the book came out as a disaster!. As for the characters, they were awful from the beginning, shallow and unrealistic, especially Edward!. The books all seemed similar to me, she must have gotten excited at the success of the first one and kept repeating the same things!. She wrote it down like a young teenager would write down their fantasy story, which would explain why it's gotten so popular especially amongst that group!. But all in all it was one of the worst series I've read!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The writing was very thick!. If she used dazzle or sparkle again I was going to jump off a bridge!. I don't understand why she had to use so many adverbs to describe Edward, it was juvenile!. He was like an ugly, dorky, awkward version of Lestat!. If she writes Midnight sun I hope she follows through and kills the Cullens!. I did like Jacob for a while, he was the only realistic character that actually had a personality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well!. i read the first two books, they were pretty good!. the third was a little lacking!. i stabbed breaking dawn repeatedly with a spoon!.My Immortal was better than this piece of **** breaking dawn!. I mean really, edwar gives the sexings to bella, bella gets preggo, bella almost dies giving birth to weird *** thing, edmard gives her a c- section with his teeth, jacob ***** the baby, jacob dies, bella becomes a vampire, and they live happily ******* ever after!. it SUCKED!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes they are poorly written!. I'm pretty sure characters are supposed to change over the course or a book and especially during the course of a series somewhat!. But bella didn't and she is sooo annoying! I don't know why people like them so much all it's doing is advertising unhealthy and abusive relationships!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yup, you pretty much summed it up!. I've only read to the end of New Moon, but the moment Edward's involved in the plot I find her writing unbearably obsessed with describing his perfection!. The bit of New Moon where he's not there was almost better - and then he came back and we were right back to the same old Mary Sue drivel!. Shame!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yes I believe you are right!. The writing drags on and on and on, it gets aggravating!. Yes, good plot but not good enough!. She ran out of things to talk about and that hurts a writing!. The only reason it was a hit is because the movie came out and the girls thought that Robert Pattinson is hot!.(Which i believe!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is the sad state of all of the arts in america!. They are all being packaged with utmost mediocrity for twelve and thirteen year olds!. There's nothing left for adults, but the adults appear to be so braindead that they don't care!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

and it's a completely shallow meaningless book!.

For the first 12 chapters or so the plot goes absolutely no where and the characters are never developed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

omg i KNOW! I'm 13 and I agree with you!. My 43 year old teacher had me put her computer background as robert pattinson!.!.!. ya its not just the screaming 11 and 12 year olds!.!.!. it is very disturbing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

they were a easy read!.!.i mean its meant for young girls so it would be stupid to make it like pride and prejudice or any complex books out therWww@QuestionHome@Com

I agree that breaking dawn was the worst!. It was too drawn out!. I still love them though!. I wouldn't change them at all but I didn't like breaking dawn!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I COMPLETLY AGREE!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. The book was written like bad fanfiction!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree they were not well written!.!.!. but they are quite entertaining, i personally like the series!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

noWww@QuestionHome@Com

yup!. the books suck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I loved Twilight but agree that SMeyer will not be known as a great american writer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I was moderately entertained by the first book!.
I was annoyed by the second book!.
Started the third book and found I had absolutely no desire to continue on!.

Sure, Edward is described as "beautiful" over and over again!. And maybe he is "smoldering", but quite honestly, does he even have a personality!? He has a brief Q&A sssion with Bella, gets into disagreements with her, then suddenly, they are irresistbly and passionately in love!.
I can understand her having a crush on him at first, mysterious and all that, but there are no redeeming qualities about either one of them!. Edward's a beautiful, well-educated, possibly bipolar stalker!. He comes into her bedroom at night, listens to her talk in her sleep, follows her around, listening in on every conversation she has, gets her hopes up then lets her down every time!.
She's obsessed because of the mystery, he's obsessed cause she smells tasty, but no where along the line did the book show them falling in love!. The book *tells* you they're in love, but never *shows* you any of it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

um yes i did!. Okay twilight is a good book at some point!. but now i'm just annoyed over it!. too many people think it's the best book in the world!. for your information- it isn't!. take it from me who reads 99!.9% of the time!. You want a good book that will make you see the real world!? Read Mein Kampf by Hitler!. yes by hitler!. sure it may be boring history but it's better than that vampire crap!. Yes stephanie meyer is a talented writer!. I know it!. The only book that I loved from her is The Host!. because it's not vampire crap!. I'm sorry for those of you who are obsessed over twilight!. But really- get a grip!. Books are way too interesting to be compared to a fictional love story!. Really!. I'm sorry if i offended anyone!. And no i'm not a nazi, or a hitler lover, or anything!. I was jus trying to prove a point that sometimes reading things cruel in life, are going to open your eyes to get books that are much better written and have a moral unlike twilight!. and i've read all of the series- none of them stood out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

While the idea and story was interesting, the entire Twlight series was obviously a freshman effort!. The author shows a lot of potiential, but I'm sure she can do better than what she did!.

Weaknesses that come to mind: The underdevelopment of the secondary characters!. Everyone but Bella, Jacob and Edward is essentially a one-dimensional character with a single cardinal personality trait!. Emmett is a basic high school jock!. Angela is the sympathetic sidekick friend!. Esme is a mom!. Carlilse is a saint!. Rosalie is a prom queen, etc etc!.

The absence of written out combat scenes!. It was lazy to not include the actual fight between James and the Cullens!. She needs to do what other authors do and take a couple of martial arts classes to get the feel of it!.

Too neat, happy endings!. Underdramatization!. Pretty much the entirety of Breaking Dawn!. Nothing significant is sacrificed!. Everything just worked out so perfect, it was unbelievable!.

She can do better and I hope she does more with the genre!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Okay well, i agree the idea is amazing!. i personally think the book was amazing for an author who didn't even write it for it to be published!. keep in mind it ws her first book and it wasn't meant to be published!.

i am one of those teenagers that drools over Edward Cullen!. because he is such a gentlemen ! it's kind of UN-realistic no one can be like that but just imagine if it was possible ! i personally liked Jacob better though!. he's seems more!.!.!.!.realistic!.

and i have to agree with your last statement as well!. breaking dawn was written poorly!. i believe it is because she dosn't even care about the books anymore!. she has her money she is popular why would Stephenie Meyer care !? but i still love the books!. the main idea is just amazing,Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, it's not only high school essay quality writing, it's more like lack of preparatin!. I was all for the romance of it and that part was great, but I found myself thinking about all the errors in the plot and characters!. I often found that the author had to come up with some silly side story to make the rest of the story make sense!. Example: Why only certain Vampire's couldn't have an effect on Bella!. She explains that only the vampire's whose powers affect the mind couldn't reach her, but Jasper's power should've really had no effect if you ask me!. Blah blah blah, I'm right there with you on this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, I do not agree!.

I still like, it, but I believe that I am not a stupid fan-girl and do not feel that my intelligence has been insulted, discredited or otherwise from reading these books!. I consider myself quite an intelligent young lady, not necessarily skilled enough to spot the supposed 'fan-fiction' and 'purple prose' style that Stephenie Meyer has exhibited in these books!.
Nevertheless, it does not harm you if you choose to read them!. It does not make you any less of a skilled reader or writer by reading these books!. Maybe I am too young to understand the horror that Stephenie Meyer is inflicting upon the brains of my generation!.
A book is enjoyable because of its content, not because of the style it has been written!. While people may argue that writing style immensely improves the quality, it should not be judged to an extent of examining very single page for grammatical and structure errors!.
A book should be enjoyed, not critiqued!. But, if that is your way, then I suppose there is not way of convincing you!.
What I have to say is this: do not fear for the future of our generation!. In fact, this experience may help us to become better as writers, to learn from this generation to pass on skills to the next!.
If these books are consuming your thoughts in such an inappropriate and worrying manner, I suggest you seek a cure!.
