Question: Does anyone else get annoyed by new writers asking if their story is good!?
I do understand many are just needing/wanting feedback into their work but it tends to get old after awhile!. Each person's opinion is going to be different and usually the more experienced writers (such as myself) are going to refuse to coddle them and actually give honest critiques!. These new writers often choose the one that coddles them the most and doesn't give any real review!.

I guess I just don't understand!. When I have new material I take it to my professional writer friends for review, not to a group of strangers who don't exactly have much experience!.

What do you think!? Is asking for feedback a positive thing or a negative!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Honestly, I go to a place like this to attempt to build a reputation, and honestly I am happy to read the hackneyed crap that the million other people who came here with similar reasoning are posting!. The way that I am hopping that people will see my name and think of poetry and tales and things is to see the guy that is willing to read any crap you put in front of him and give you his opinion of it!. I don't often read it throughly, like I would if it had a byline of H!. P!. Lovecraft or Edgar Allan Poe; but this is a sort of place where people like me, and the tireless talentless hacks can come together out of common interest!.

I don't 'coddle' them, I just tell them what I'm thinking!. If I couldn't stand to read past the first sentence, I am not afraid to tell someone that!. If I was actually completely wrapped up into it, and its imagery was so vivd it illicited physical responses from me, I will tell them that too!. My point is, you have to come to a place like that prepared to read crap and tell people it's crap!. That is the nature of a place like this, you can't make it as a writer today, and all writers, new, old, terrible and good can do is huddle together in front of a bonfire burning inside of a fifty-five gallon barrel and warm themselves over it, wearing gloves with holes in them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sorry, but some people live in the middle of no-where, they don't have access to a group of published writers or a team of college professors like I do, or some people do!. Many of the people posting those questions are just kids!. Asking for feedback from any person is good, you get more perspectives!. Its good to get feed back from average joe here and there instead of Mr!. PhD in Creative Writing!. You just need to be mature enough to understand that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not only does that tick me off, but I'm so tired of people posting pictures they took of themselves and asking if they are pretty or handsome!.

First it suggests to me they are insecure and second it exposes them to unknowns that can kick the living tar out of their self esteem!. I wish it would stop!.

Thanks for asking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most are probably young kids who are naive and honestly believe that they will get useful advice that won't be hurtful!. Most posters take pity on them and are kind in their assessments!. I always am, if I think the person is young!. What does it hurt!? Why crush their spirits!? It's hard enough to get kids to write!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes i do get annoyed sometimes because instead of getting friends and family to read the work (or better a Professional) they post in online to strangers and they work is in danger!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think it's a bad thing!. Some people are just looking for improvement in their writing!. Besides, I think it's great if kids are writing, kids never want to write!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Better than the repeated Twilight questions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i do get annoyed but i sometimes do it on quizilla!.comWww@QuestionHome@Com

If you have little time for stupid questions then don't answer them ! "Smart ***"
check my question again I wrote bacWww@QuestionHome@Com

Personally, I used to think it was cute that so many people on here were into writing and wanted feedback and I would answer them happily with an honest critique!. Now-a-days, it is just obsessive Twilight fans who want to write stories about Vampires and be as famous as Stephanie Meyer which ANNOYS me a lot!. If people would ask for opinions on ORIGINAL pieces of work that are new and different and unique I would not mind one bit!. I agree with you though on the fact that asking on here is not a smart idea because most people have no experience and give answers like "OMG I LOVE IT!!!!! Can I read it when it's done!?!? EMAIL IT"

For so many of them, this is how the process starts!. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what this forum is all about!?
I have read and tried to honestly critique many such postings!. Level of talent or lack of does not bother me so much as those who insist on writing in what I call "text-speak", with the OMG's and the lol's and all that other inexcusable laziness!. Another thing that aggravates me is when they excuse their poor spelling and grammar by saying that they were "typing fast and didn't have time to check for errors, and who cares about that anyway!?" That, again, is another sign of laziness, which makes the work unworthy of serious consideration by anybody!.
Having said that, there are plenty of young people out there who are earnest about their writing and are looking for some feedback, any feedback, to better themselves!. And for them, I will always make the time to give them what they deserve: an honest critique!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I actually enjoy to read questions that ask 'can you look at my story'!.
Thought it does annoy me when people post replies saying 'that was awesome! i sooooo want to read more!!!" when it was obviously!.!.!. well horrible!. I also get annoyed seeing all these twilight stories- i mean their close enough to the real thing to paste on fan-fiction!.com
Though i don't get annoyed if people just want others to look over a piece of the story (that is original) and critique them because not all writers have these 'professional writer friends' as you say!. You are just extremely lucky to have them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course its a positive!.
Your 'professionals', are not the ones to actually buy the written work!.

If you cannot be bothered to help someone by giving an honest valuation about something that they actually value your opinion on, then tell them so!.

If you want to crush others dreams of becoming a published author, then tell them no!.

If, however, you want to encourage others to write using new ideas and using new prosaic styles, then give them your opinion honestly as long as they understand that it is YOUR opinion only and should not be taken as anything other than that!.

I personally found 'The Lord Of The Rings' to be long-winded, over-descriptive and something that most readers would become bored with after the first chapter or 2!.

Everyone has differing views on everything, that's what makes the world such an interesting place!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
