Question: Could you recommend any books for someone who likes the following!?
I love Twilight, Harry Potter, The Host, City of Bones, Wicked Lovely, anything by Jane Austen, Bleak House by Charles Dickens, the Princess Bride, Dracula and a lot of other books!. Reading is practically my life, but I'm having some issues finding anything new and am forced to reread the same books over and over again!. I enjoy it, but I'd like something new!. Any suggestions would be appreciated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I'm not sure how these books will compare to those, but even if they're nothing alike, there's nothing wrong with expansion, right!?

Gregory Maguire's novels!. His most recognized is Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West!. He's written several other stories, though!. Basically, he takes well-known stories (the Wizard of Oz for Wicked, and I think he's also taken Cinderella and/or Snow White) and writes them from a different point-of-view!. It changes things like you couldn't imagine!.

Madeleine L'Engle is my favorite author, so I always suggest her!. Her best-known work is probably A Wrinkle in Time!. I would, of course, suggest that, as well as the rest of her Time quartet!. Look into her series about the Austen family (fictional-- not to be confused with Jane Austen) and if you're looking for something higher level, check out her adult stuff!. She's a magnificent author, old school, so she has that Irresistable flow to her writing!.

Have you gone to any of the classics!? The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, Gone With the Wind, Catcher in the Rye, 1984, Brave New World, Animal Farm, A Clockwork Orange, Catch-22, and many others are all fantastic novels for various reasons!.

If you enjoyed Dickens, I would suggest going back to him!. However, I want to warn you about David Copperfield!. Reading D-Copp for school was not an enjoyable experience-- in my opinion, it's 800 pages of the same story retold!. My English teacher prefers Great Expectations, so I'd gear you in that direction!.

Have you tackled Shakespeare at all!? I used to despise the man, but I've recently grown close to him!. I would suggest starting with MacBeth and, if you enjoy that, ask around as to what to read next!.

Oh, and if you've never read Edgar Allen Poe, get on that!. His stuff is sort of morbid, kind of creepy, and completely gripping!. You can't go wrong with the man, whether it's his poetry or prose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I too enjoy all of the books that you have read and i am often faced with the same problem!. I recommend the His Dark Materials Trilogy by Phillip Pullman!. It is very very good and it has magical elements similar to harry potter (however, if you are a seriously religious person it has often been called the 'atheist' books, but i suggest reading them before judging) If your a fan of the classics then i also recommend Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte or The Merchant of Venice by Shakespeare!. If you haven't already read the Chronicles of Narnia, they are very good too But i found that it is better (and cheaper) to get the entire series in one large unabridged book!. Stardust is also good (however short) and WAY better than the movie!.

hope that helped!. :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'd suggest some Anne Rice

* Merrick (2000)Vampire Chronicles
* Blood and Gold (2001)Vampire Chronicles

*The Feast of All Saints (1979)
* Cry to Heaven (1982)
* The Mummy (novel) (1989)

* The Witching Hour (novel) (1990) Mayfair Witches Series

All eerily supernatural but not all on vampires!.!.They are quite engrossing!. I think my favorite is The Mummy!. (I have 3 copies of it)Www@QuestionHome@Com

My biggest issue is that I love series! Many of those that you have named, (and you've given me some ideas!)!. I personally enjoy Anne Rice (the creator of such novel-turned-movies like "Interview with the Vampire" and "Queen of the Damned"), and anything by Laurell K!. Hamilton (I have a signed copy of one of her works in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series!. These do get quite graphic, and sexual, so be warned!. also something I find extremely hilarious and stress-releasing are the Georgia Nicolson series by Louise Rennison!. They start with "Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging"!. These aren't dirty (although everyone thinks they are), but she is British!.
And the first of L!.K!. Hamilton's Anita Blake series is Guilty Pleasures!.
Happy reading!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
