I find the work of Dickinson fascinating!. In the Uk, at school I was not taught about this amazing poet and only fell upon her later on in life!.

I guess what was unusual about her lifestyle was that she lived as a recluse yet despite this she corresponded with so many people and enjoyed deep emotional relationships with others!. She was detached from the 'physical' world and yet remained attached in an emotional sense through her creative writing ability!.

Her mother's illness necessitated her staying at home and caring for her and perhaps because of this she immersed herself in her writing and gardening!.

She was very perturbed about death and dying and experienced a great deal of loss in her life!. Much of her writing is based on this theme!.

There is speculation about her sexuality with some scholars suggesting a lesbian romance with Susan Dickinson!.

She was a very eccentric, dreamy, sophisticated, modern thinking woman who wrote harrowing, mystical, morbid, sexy, psychologically complex poetry!. I find her work intriguing! Www@QuestionHome@Com

She was thought of as an eccentric by the locals because she became known for her penchant for white clothing and her reluctance to greet guests or, later in life, even leave her room!.
There are a lot of theories as to why she chose to withdraw from the world but the one that seems the most realistic is that er mother was chronically ill and needed one of her daughters to stay with her and Emily who was already a recluse of sorts decided she would be the one to stay and worked on her poems which are pretty amazing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
