Question: If you started reading a Fantasy book and discovered lesbian themes, would you stop reading!?
If it was just two people of the same sex flirting, nothing graphic, relevant to the plot, would you just not want to read more!?

Just asking one more time for more answers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I wouldn't *choose* a book with lesbian themes, but if they turned up as part of an otherwise great book, I'd probably keep reading!. It would depend how graphic and intense it got - that's not a theme I find entertaining!.

I have had this happen!. I got very into Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover series - a fabulous SF/fantasy series!. She was an awesome writer, and I loved the whole telepathy/powers of mind thing!. But some of her later books in the series had gay/lesbian characters and plots in them!. I read them because I adored the series, but I didn't enjoy those books as much!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It really depends on how bad it is!.!.!.for I personally don't support that kind of relationship, (but still respect people who feel that way), but reading about it minimal flirting wouldn't be a reason to stop reading a good book!. But this doesn't mean that I would reread the book!.

For instance in Will of the Empress by Tamora Pierce, what starts out as flirting escalates into something much more, which was an important part of the plot, made me a uncomfortable, and I wished I had stopped reading it earlier!.

But then again if there is an explicit sex-scene in a book, whether it is a same-sex or opposite-sex couple, I throw the book away because I don't need to read about two people having sex!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!.
Although I am not lesbian myself, I am a supporter of gay marriage!.
I believe when people look at people in love they don't see the love!. I think that they only see the people that are in love!. I think this is wrong, because love is a bond that should be shared by people, even if they are the same gender!.
And if it is in a book, it doesn't matter!. This is happening in reality!. People out there are lesbian, and you'll see them at some point!. It's not really that big of a deal!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

No I mean what's the problem with it!? It's just a book

That's really funny that you mentioned that!. I just finished a book where you find out that 2 of the main characters have a romantic relationship!. Both girls!. It made a lot of sense for the story and tied in beautifully with the books themes and overall statement!. Unless it's just paperback porn, then I don't see why you would stop!. You could just be losing out on a really good story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If I like the story, I'd continue reading!. Lesbian themes would not make me want to stop reading!. If the story is too heavy on the Harlequin-type romantic side, however, no matter what the gender combination, I would probably stop reading!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course not!. Homosexuality doesn't bother me at all in real life; in my opinion, they have the right to love who they love!. Why would it bother me in books!?

For instance, The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray has two characters who are lesbians, and it's a wonderful book!.

I would not stop reading!. I think it's a bad reason to stop reading the book, especially if it's an interesting book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I wouldn't see that as a valid reason to stop reading the book!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
