Question: Did anyone read The Giver!?
Two questions-

1) Did anyone find the abundance of sexual innuendo in this book a little off-putting!? Jonas and the Giver, Jonas and Asher, Jonas and Fiona, Jonas and his sister!. It was just all over the place!.

2) What's your take on the ending!? Did Jonas and the baby make it to civilization, or did they die!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
you want to talk about off putting, The Giver doesn't have anything on Huxley's Brave New World or Jean Anouilh's play Becket try reading those works and this one will seem mild in comparison

If I remember right the ending was a little questionable, like you don't really know if they got there or not, i think it was an indeterminate endingWww@QuestionHome@Com

It's been a while since I've read that so i can't really answer the first question but for the second, the writer purposefully left it open so everyone could make up their own endings!. Personally, I don't think they made it!. The odds were really against them and the whole tone of the book seemed like it was leading to an unhappy ending!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1!. Well they've had their natural human instinct to reproduce and spread sperm thoroughly suppressed so I get it!.
2!. I'm sure we'd all like that happy ending but I think they most likely died!. I'm guessing it was some kind of hallucination due to the loss of energy and extreme coldWww@QuestionHome@Com

1) Only between Jonas and Fiona, which was more stated than implied!. The rest I didn't notice because I don't go around looking for innuendo!.!.

2) There is a sort-of sequel which Jonas and Gabriel appear in called The Messenger!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
