What's you're favorite and least favorite thing authors do in their book

Question: What's you're favorite and least favorite thing authors do in their books!?

I love writing and want to do my best at it!. I've read tons of fiction or creative writing reference books but was just curious if other readers out there have specific things they hate or love that authors do!?

Stuff about their writing style or characters that bug you or that you love!.

I love when writers do so in the first person!.,,,and are bottomlessly knowledgeable about the topic they write!. I dig insights into human attitude and behaviour!.!.!.!.and when they can combine their knowledge and the first person and deliver a riveting narrative!.!.!.I am in heaven!. Two such writers are Adam Hall and his secret agent Quiller books!.!.!. and Andrew Vachss and his ex-con/criminal/private detective 'Burke' books!. These two are exquisite at what they do!.!.!.and in my opinion!.!.!.have no peers!.

I hate it when a writer cannot pull off a good finish!. I don't want a Disney ending!. That just gives me a brain freeze!. I want a good ending!.!.!.and I don't care much if it is happy or sad!.!.!.just good!. A writer has to be able to make it to the finish line with me hot on his heels!. Like Dean Koontz' Phantoms or Strangers!. I hate it when the writer has me by the balls for the 99% of the book!.!.!.then drops the ball in the last chapter!. When Koontz gets it right!.!.!.it is smoking hot!.!.!.like his books Bad Place!.!.!.and One Door away from Heaven!. Those endings rock!.
