When writing, the numbers one thru ten should be spelled out!. After that, use your number-pad!. You can use words if you want to exxagerate a number or in quotations by a person - such as, "Well, Bill was born way back in nineteen-hundred and eighteen, so he's old as dust!"

If you accidentally spell out a number that should have been punched out on your number-pad - don't worry!. Your editors and proof-readers will catch it (or should)!. But it's good that you want to get to know these things!.!.!.sometimes a potential agent will stop reading your manuscript if you have too many errors contained therein!.

Good luck! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I myself find that I prefer to write the word instead of the number!. Writing the words twelth grade is the formal, and more mature form!.
Using the numbers 12th grade is the informal form!.
I've never really thought about it but I suppose most authors use the word form!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Word, unless you are referring to another persons writing, a sign, a document, etc where it is written in number form!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Authors almost always use words!.
Unless, of course, they're writing a year, and then they'd write "2008" (as an example)Www@QuestionHome@Com

WORDS!.
