Question: My Mom won't let me read Anne of Green Gables but I have to for school, help please!?

My class was assigned to read Anne of Green Gables for school and we have to do a book report on it!. My Mom confiscated the book though she says there is too much flirting in it and she says girls get drunk in it!. I told her I had to get the book back but she won't even give it back but it is the property of the school's, what should I do!? I really want to read it it sounds good, is it so bad!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wow, that is one of the most innocent books ever written!. In fact, the majority of the book is focused on a rivalry between Anne and (I forget his name)!. At the end, they become friends, but I don't remember them ever flirting with each other!. Anne dislikes him quite a bit, because he teases her about her red hair!.

As for the "drunk" thing, at one point, Anne is allowed to have a tea party with her best friend, Diana!. Anne ACCIDENTALLY gives Diana a drink that has alcohol in it!. Diana does become drunk, and Anne is mortified!. The girls are no longer allowed to see each other UNTIL Anne works all night to save Diana's brother's life!.

Anne of Green Gables is appropriate for grade schoolers!. I read it in third grade!. I also read it earlier this year (I'm 23 now)!.

If your mom really doesn't want you to read something so innocent and simple, then SHE needs to take it up with your teacher!. You shouldn't have to get a bad grade because your mom is being an idiot!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Anne of Green Gables is a mild, sweet book, with hardly anything objectionable!. You may want to see if your mom is willing to sit down and talk about why you can't read it and perhaps hear your case!. Maybe she has it confused with another book!?

tell ur mom, u'll tell the teacher about the problem she has with green gables; the teacher will prob give some alternative, and tell ur mom she will have to pay for the fine the school will give u for not returning the book!.

if u really want to read the book; go ask a friend to use her lib card and borrow it for u, and hide the book; i'm sure ur mom won't watch u 24/7
