I would like to have been "on the bus" with Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters, meeting Larry McMurtry and Tom Wolfe along the way, and On The Road with Kerouac!. I should have been a Deadhead too!. I'd have never made a "superstar" but I'd have liked to party at Warhol's Factory!. Stopped into Max's Kansas City, CBGB's, hopped the pond and stolen ugly clothes from Malcolm McLaren while sneering at Sid Vicious!. Definitely would want to have rocked the first Clash show!. I'd kill to have been in the bar the night Gram Parsons met Emmylou Harris, and I'd like to have been among those who stole his body and tried to cremate him in the desert!. I wouldn't have minded a night in a cell with Johnny Cash on a D&D, for picking flowers, naturally! I'd like to have been around while The Rolling Stones recorded Exile On Main Street!. I wish I'd grown up next door to Neil Young!. Taken Norah Jones to her first piano lesson!. Gone to school with Bret Easton Ellis!. Mowed John Kennedy Toole's mother's lawn, since you know he wasn't doing it!. Sat next to Steinbeck on a cross country ride, mixed innumerable drinks for Hemingway!. I'd be Salinger's housekeeper or shine Vonnegut's shoes, if so required!.

I could ramble on forever which would be silly because I have strayed far from your original premise!. It was fun though, thanks for asking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

All my favourite writers of course, fiction and non-fiction - like Michael Ende, JRR Tolkien, Jane Austen, Lord Byron, Anne Frank (though it would be scary to be in her world), etc!. I would have also liked to see James Cameron thinking of a love story taking place in Titanic, or how Peter Jackson is thinking of adapting the LOTR book into a movie, with Elijah Wood as his Frodo!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Andrew Lloyd Weber when he wrote The Phantom of the Opera!. Only a genius could come up with something so amazing, beautiful and scary all in one!. Operas inside of an opera!. A love story with a twist that is still loved to this day!. The Phantom of the Opera may be an old story but it will never GET old!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would very much like to "meet" Virginia Woolf but not in the process of writing something!. I would like to be next to her when she decided to give an end to her life!. I would do my best to make her change her mind and not throw herself in the river!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

So much of what we now think of as great art (any genre) came from a place of agony and torment giving birth to a terrible beauty of expression!.

Many who accomplished these great pieces of art were arrogant, moody and self-absorbed, pains in the you-know-where and unbearable to be around!. Hemingway was a fascinating man and I'd love to meet him for a drink, but could I have tolerated him more than a day or two!? Or for more than one drink!?

Some of the ideas that have changed our way of thinking and even stopped the world spinning on its axis for a second, were ridiculed and punished at the time!. And yet, on the other hand, so much of what causes us wonder and awe now, stemmed from what felt mundane at the time!. And sometimes, even accidental!.

What would I have felt if I had witnessed the Mona Lisa being painted!? It was a portrait for hire!. Would I have looked upon the doing of it as just another day at the office for da Vinci!? Would I have had any sense of the significance of that one piece!?

A friend was at Woodstock!. He said it was muddy and miserable but nobody cared because it was great and the drugs were free and abundant and the music was incredible!. It took a decade, though, before he knew he had witnessed first hand something historical!.

Still, there are times when you just know you're in front of greatness so rare you may never see it again!. My husband knew that when he played with Clark Terry!. They were both jazz trumpet players and my husband was comfortable with his own talent and skill!. But Clark Terry, he said, was on another plane, a level unattainable by mere mortals!.

Now, if I were to look over someone's shoulder at the moment of creation and know I was a witness to something immortal, that person would be Beethoven!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
