A boy (i believe was mentally handicapped) was being tested by scientists along with a mouse!. The book was not a narrative, but a diary as i recall, and a cool thing about it was that the boy's speech as he is progressing becomes more and more advanced - that is - until the climax when he beats the mouse in a game (then the mouse dies and he cries) then his intelligence goes back down again!.
