Arguments for censorship, in the case, include parents' right to control and influence the enducation of their children and the ideas that their children are subjected to in fiction books!. Parents question the right of teachers to assign books with racist, anti-semitic, anti- religious content to their children!.

There is also the right of schools and school boards to set curricula and select which books to purchase for the library!. Should boards be allowed to choose only books that do not offend the diverse communities in which they serve!?

Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are NO viable arguments for censoring books!. Under the U!.S!. Constitution, if you are American, freedom of speech covers the publication of just about anything!. If a social group finds a published book objectionable, their option is (or should be) to refrain from reading it! If the group attempting to censor a book is parental, wishing allegedly to "protect" children from being corrupted or influenced badly by the book's content, they can forbid their own children to read it!. If it has been assigned by a school teacher, and the parents wish to prevent their children from reading it, they can discuss their desires with the teacher, principal, or school board, but they should not be allowed actually to censor the book, to have it removed from the school library, for instance!. And society as a whole should not be able to censor a book which exists in published form; in fact, I would be surprised to hear that such censorship is prevalent in this era!. As the author of two self-published novels in which there is much explicit erotica (for example), I would be horrified to learn that my books had been censored simply because they offended some group of people!. No one is forced to read anything that he or she absolutely can not tolerate due to its content!. A college student can abstain from taking a course in which the reading assignment will be something which opposes his or her personal standards of morality, but it is not the duty of any group to establish the morals for our society!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The same argument as always!. That ideas can corrupt fragile young minds leading them into unhealthy practices, decadence, crime, etc!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
