Question: What's the best way to start writing!?
Ever since I was little, I've been reading stories and writing my own!. The stories I've written all suck, except for a few!. I want to get back into writing (I'm 17 now) and have an idea of what to write about!. I basically want to write about a group of people and how they have affected my life in the past two years!. I'm going to make it fictional; different names, and NOT as though it's a memoir!. How can I start!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can start by planning your story out!. I find that a mind map always helps me, so start there!. Think of names, events and the overall plot!. Then, do another mind map showing the order that you're going to put those events in!. Highlighters are handy for you to highlight the key points of your mind map!. They help you think straight!. Then, Start writing your first chapter!. Explain whats going to happen in the book, but don't give the whole book away!. You could do like this for example-
'Hi!. I am _______!.
I am going to die!.'
This hooks the reader in and then you can branch your ideas of from there!. After that First Chapter, the rest just comes to you!. Another way to start of is by using your own dreams for inspiration!. Or, use articles from news papers to give you ideas!. Or, when your out in the high street, get out your thick college ruled notebook and write down what you see!. A story will come to you just like that!. Hope This Helps! I cant wait to see your Book In a shop Window :D!

I worked for 8 years in a HS in Special Ed - one boy just could not write, or did not know how to begin!. I told him to close his eyes, and visualize something he truly treasures; and then write exactly what you saw within your mind!. It really worked, and from the day, he loved to write!. Before you start writing, you have to be totally calm and relaxed, no music, no distractions, and the thoughts will start to flow!.

For me what pushed me to write was joining a writing class at night school!. Each week I had to hand in something I'd written!. By the end of the twelve weeks I had produced 12 short stories, others in my class continued with novels they were writing and one guy actually finished his during the twelve week course!. Happy writing!. xWww@QuestionHome@Com

You answered your own question:

Start writing!. Ignore your inner editor and don't allow yourself to focus on whether it sucks!. Just write!. Let the ideas flow without any regard for what happens!. See where it leads you!. When you're done, then go back and edit!. Good luck and happy writing!Www@QuestionHome@Com

What I always do is write the blurb first - it focuses on the key ideas, the characters, gets atmosphre, and makes you feel as you could do it; without filling in the detail!. Plan out roughly, maybe in chapters, and go ahead and do it!. Good luck!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Do nanowrimo, it's great :)
You basically write a novel in a month - not caring about quality, but quantity!. It started on Saturday, so you might have to catch up a bit but it's definetly worth checking out :)
