It has to be a romantic time, yet scandalous!. I am willing to do a great amount of research for it too!. But like, the 12th century!? Or before that/after!? What is filled with lots of excitement and information that would complete an interesting novel!.
Some books that have similar ideas are Phillipa Greggory novels, Like the Constant Princess, or The Luxe Series by another author!. Plus the country had many wars, and you could write something about that!.!.!.and how it affected the lives of people around them!. You could also write about Ireland!! They too had wars, and religious issues!. Nothing is more scandalous that religion, war, and whores!. Try setting it in around the 12th-17th century, gives you more options!. Or!! Maybe the girl could be a prisioner of war from another country, like she was a nurse who got captured, and she falls in love with an officer from the opposing side!. Then she gets pregnant, and sent home!. Turns out she's royalty!. Dad the king flips, has to marry!.!.!.but who!?!!? Do it! Another period might be the Stone Age!.!. you could give it a completely different meaning for your reader, because it's rare that we see first person accounts of every day life - most importantly their social relations!. You'd have to use some imagination to make it interesting, but isn't that the point!?
