Question: How do I become a better writter!?
I love to write and often find myself writting things down spur of the moment!. Often on whatever I can find and I have piles of papers with random sentences on it!. But Im such a horrible speller! I mean Im not that bad, but my grammar is off a little bit!. :( I just feel like it can't be read if it was in a newspaper!. I have some good things but im way to shy to share some of it mostly because of my embarrassment on the format of my writting!. Any tips!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

Read!. Voraciously!. Read everything you can get your hands on, and gradually start to pick out favourite writers and styles, and what those writers do to achieve those styles!. Fiction or non-fiction, it doesn't matter to start off with - the best way to learn grammar (aside from being taught it formally) is to immerse yourself in good writing until you know instinctively when something's not right!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't get carried away with the spelling obsession and ignore these stupid spellcheckers- they are the mark of a fairly ordinary mind and if you want to write, what you need is imagination and perception in spades, the organization and the proof-reading come much later and if you can write there are dozens of hacks who can do this for $10 an hour!.
Read, read, read and the read some more is one vital way to grow in experience and in answering those questions of style which haunt all writers!.You then need perseverance to deal with publishers!.

Ideally, travelling and reading is superior to merely working your way through the classics!.You can too start with short stories before you go for the inevitable novel!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1!. Read all the classic literature you can, preferably several different styles

2!. Write out what you want in your book as notes (informal) from beginning to end, just so you can stay on track and say what it is you mean!.

3!. Write what you know!. If you don't know it, research it until you do!. (even in fiction or sci-fi research is very important, people will know if you just make up facts or don't bother to check out lore or myths!.)

4!. Use a broad, varied vocabulary!. No one wants to read the same trite words over and over again!.

5!. Model your characters after people you know; it makes them seems more real to the readers!. And for land's sake, give them flaws!.!.!.humans are not perfect!.

6!. Have your friends and family read it, run it through Word for spelling errors, copyright it then post portions on websites like FictionPress!.com or Writerscafe!.org (they'll give you free opinions)

7!. Read more books!.

Nichole, you sound like you got what it takes to be a good writer!. Don't worry so much about your spelling, that's a drop in the bucket that you can fix later!. My wife always comes up behind me, "you misspelled this word or that one!. I just go on writing, because I know what the word is and I can fix it later!.(spell check or dictionary) If you love what you do go ahead and show it!. The ones that put you down pay them no mind(not to much) but look to the positive ones that build you up & move onward!. You got it, show it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My advice would be to simply read more!. I'm an AWFUL speller, but thankfully there's always spell check, my personal saving grace!. Anyway, for formatting, just read and practice practice practice!!! Good Luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
