If I understand you, yes it is plagiarism!.

Someone wrote a newspaper article, and said Mrs!. Jones, who witnessed the incident, said "It was the single most terrifying thing I've ever seen!." The writer did not speak to Mrs!. Jones, but took the quotation from another article online!.

The second writer did not plagiarize Mrs!. Jones, but did plagiarize the first article from which he took Mrs!. Jones' statement!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. Plagiarism is passing off other people's words and ideas as your own, which is pretty difficult for a news story to do!. Once that quote hit the Internet, it became part of the public realm!. I'm assuming the newspaper didn't engage in any illegal activity to get the quote!? If not, and as long as the newspaper attributed the quote correctly, and hopefully said where it got the quote, it is fine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The definition is 1!. the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work!.
2!. something used and represented in this manner!.

By citing it, it is no longer unauthorised!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
