Question: What does a rose for Emily by William Faulkner symbolizes!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
first of all, to all posters, there is no actual rose that exists in the short story!. it only exists in the title!.

the rose is a symbol of love, it always has been, and portrays a beauty that doesn't end, even when it dies!. the rose has been used for centuries to illustrate an everlasting type of love and faithfulness!. i think that miss emily’s “rose” exists only within the story’s title!. faulkner leaves the reader to interpret the rose’s symbolic meaning!. it could be that the rose symbolizes what i just mentioned when emily had killed homer barron with the rat poison!. she loved him, and she would always love him even in death, just as a rose is still held in high regard even in falling grace!. or it could symbolize a rose FOR emily, as in she's never been loved (not by the townspeople, by anyone!.!.!.) and this was her rose!.

it's a story, told in flashback, about a woman named Emily Grierson!. it starts off with her funeral!. she was quite lonely, but by choice, and she didn't wander off and mingle with the townspeople often!. she stayed in her house, and that's that!.
